Police arrested a homeless man intoxicated on pills Thursday night inside a garage of a house in the Cypress Bayou neighborhood subdivision off Hwy 87.
Residents of the house were in the garage when the man walked inside. The woman living in the house posted on Facebook that the man claimed he had been left at a store and he was looking for a phone charger.
28-year-old Brock Dwayne Elliott of Louisiana faces charges of misdemeanor public intoxication and felony failure to identify.
Police were called to the house in the 900 block of Red Oak Drive at 11:16 p.m. Officer S.J. Mulhollan reported the man admitted he had taken several kinds of prescription pain pills. When police went to arrest him, he gave them a fake name. He also struggled with two officers as the handcuffed him.
After he was handcuffed and was being taken to a patrol car, he pulled loose from the officer and started running away. Officer Mulhollan said he ran after him and subdued him.
When the officer took the man to the Orange County Jail, personnel refused to book him until he had been cleared. Officer Mulhollan said the man then began to vomit and complain of stomach pains.
Acadian Ambulance came to the jail sally-port loading area, but the man refused treatment. Officer Mulhollan reported he then took the man to the Southeast Texas Medical Center in Port Arthur for him to be medically cleared. The man was then taken back to the jail and booked.
