A Mississippi man staying at the Motel 6 in Orange faces a charge of aggravated assault and evading arrest after his wife was beaten. Acadian Ambulance was called to treat the woman, who had lost consciousness during the beating.
Orange Patrol Officer J.L. Goins reported the clerk at the hotel called 9-1-1 at 3:35 a.m. because he was awakened by screaming and banging above his room. Officer Goins said the man in the upstairs room told her he and his wife had been drinking and she fell.
The left side of the wife’s face was swollen and bruised, with the eye swollen shut. Officer Goins reported the woman was bleeding from her mouth and said she had lost consciousness.
When another police officer asked the man to put his hands behind his back to be handcuffed, the man ran away. Police chased him around the building. He stopped, but would not cooperate with officers during the arrest.
