Grady Johnson, former Mayor of Pinehurst as well as longtime businessman, passed away Monday, August 10 at the age of 90. Johnson owned Johnson’s Convenient Mini Storage and before that ran Johnson’s Plumbing and Butane, and Johnson’s Enterprises. He also owned several strip centers in the Pinehurst area. He did so much in and for the city that KOGT referred to him as the “Governor” of Pinehurst. Originally from Center, Texas, Johnson served in the US Army. He was also a Deacon with Cove Baptist Church. He was married for 63 years to Ernie Lee Peggy Johnson, who passed away in 2006. He is survived by his five children, Ronnie, Kenny, Steve, David, and daughter Elaine Reeder.
