Orange police are investigating break-ins at the Little Cypress Junior High construction site and the Veterans of Foreign Wars on Highway 87.
Corbell Masonry, the contractor for the junior high construction project, called police at 7:45 Monday morning to the school at 6765 FM 1130. An estimated $4,900 of equipment had been stolen. The most expensive item was a $3,800 Bobcat welder. Other missing tools included a circular saw and screw gun.
Burglars stole cash and destroyed a jukebox and a sweepstakes machine at the VFW, 5303 North Highway 87. Officer T.Y. Tyson reported the VFW closed and locked at 8:30 p.m. Monday. When workers opened the hall on Tuesday morning, they discovered the damage. The total loss of cash and the damaged equipment is estimated at $5,500.
A resident living in the Country Club Estates neighborhood learned Monday that misplacing a debit card can be expensive. The man told Orange police that he took the card inside a convenience store when it didn’t work at the gas pumps. Later, he went to a restaurant and noticed the card missing when he opened his wallet. The person at the convenience store could not find the card. After checking the account, he learned that almost $200 had been taken from the account at local stores. Police are checking video surveillance recordings at the store. The man told Officer Justin Kirkpatrick the bank is going to reimburse him.
