Three weeks ago several Orange County officials with representatives from the Texas Department of Emergency Management inspected the damage from flooding in northwest Orange County. At the time it appeared the damage to the public infrastructure was below the required amount to be eligible for federal relief from FEMA. Orange County Emergency Management Director Ryan Peabody has compiled the damage figures and submitted it to the state emergency management department. Peabody reported that subsequently FEMA has determined the monetary damage to the Orange County infrastructure has met the public threshold to be eligible for reimbursement. The county will meet with the state and federal officials to determine the amount of the reimbursement for the county next week. The threshold which Orange County needed to reach to be eligible to receive reimbursement for the Lakeview flooding disaster is based on population of the county according to Peabody and was just under $300,000 damage. Peabody said the threshold for private property damage was not met which will limit the reimbursement for individuals in the Lakeview area.
