A burglar stole an estimated $27,500 worth of jewelry during a weekend break-in at a house in the Old Orange Historic District. The resident called Orange police about 1:30 p.m. Sunday to the 800 block of Cypress Avenue. The man told Officer D.B. Mulhollan he noticed a chair that was usually against an outside door had been moved. The resident went through the house and noticed a number of items missing. The jewelry included gold and diamond rings and watches. In addition, a 52-inch TV, a 32-inch TV, an amount of change plus collector coins were stolen.
Vandals at International Apartments on Meeks Drive damaged three vehicles and sprayed the laundry rooms with fire extinguishers. Officer D.B. Mulhollan reported he was called to the apartments at 9 a.m. Sunday. A new 2015 Chevrolet Trax had a number of dents on the rear end. While Mulhollan was there, another man reported the rear window of his Toyota 4-Runner had been broken. A large piece of concrete was found inside where the window was broken. Then at 3 p.m., another resident called police to report the rear window of a Chrysler 300 had been broken. In addition, the car had a white powder on it. Officer Mulhollan reported the powder appeared to be from fire extinguisher foam. The resident found a discarded fire extinguisher in bushes. Police took it for fingerprinting.
A resident in the Roselawn neighborhood was leaving for church Sunday morning and discovered that a new pistol was stolen from the car. The resident of a house in the 600 block of Gardenia told Orange police she had a party Saturday night and secured the Smith and Wesson pistol in the car. She went to bed about 11 p.m. When she went to the car to go to church she noticed the back passenger was ajar and the pistol was missing. The police report shows she bought the gun three weeks earlier.
