An employee with the Orange County Jail was seriously injured in an auto accident Tuesday morning in Mauriceville. At approximately 6:20 AM Tuesday, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) received a report of a two vehicle crash on Highway 62 near the Mauriceville Fire Station at Cohenour Road.
A 2015 Dodge pickup truck towing a trailer was traveling northbound on Highway 62. The driver Esteban Medina, 77, from Louisiana of the Dodge truck slowed to make a left turn onto Cohenour Road and was struck from behind by a GMC pickup truck.
The driver of the GMC, Jerrod Seago, 30, of Orange, was transported to St. Elizabeth hospital with serious injuries. Doctors needed to amputate Seago’s left leg above the knee because of the extent of the injury to it. His right leg was broken in two places and his right foot was crushed. Seago broke both arms and suffered some internal injuries in the crash.
Medina was not injured in this crash. However, Medina was injured in a separate crash at the scene. After being struck from behind by the GMC truck, Medina got out of his vehicle to direct traffic and assist Seago and was struck by a Ford pickup truck traveling southbound on Highway 62. Medina’s injuries included a broken back, broken ribs, and internal injuries. He was transported to St. Elizabeth hospital.
The 53-year-old driver of the Ford pickup truck that struck Medina was not injured.
The two separate crash are still under investigation by the DPS.
A Go Fund Me page has been set up for Seago.
