Just about one month to the day Bridge City is following through on a promise made to a couple that spoke to the City Council. On June 16 Bob and Marie Bonnin told the City Council that the property next to their home in the 2300 block of Beverly had head-high weeds and a dilapidated structure that needed to be torn down. Director of Public Works Gerald Robinson promised the Bonnin’s at the meeting that the grass and weeds would be mowed within the week, which it was. Robinson said the procedure to follow through with the city’s other promise to tear down the structure was for Code Enforcement Officer Clarence Philpott to work with the Planning and Zoning Commission to get the structure condemned. Robinson added that the city then followed up with a crew using roll off boxes for debris and a gradall machine to get it torn down. As of Friday they were doing a pretty good job of it. Robinson had estimated at the meeting that it would be about 30 days to follow through with the promise, and Friday is 31 days. In addition to the property on Beverly, Robinson indicated two other structures at 220 Turner Land and 660 Rachal are also going to be demolished.
