The rescheduled public meeting on a hurricane protection system on the upper Texas Gulf Coast will be Thursday evening at the Orange County Expo Center on FM 1442. The meeting will be from 6 to 8 p.m. and will include a presentation of a plan for gulf storm protection in six counties.
Orange County is a member of the Gulf Coast Community Protection and Recovery District. Other counties are Harris, Galveston, Chambers, Jefferson and Brazoria. The District was formed by the Texas General Land Office after Hurricane Ike.
Though an overall plan has been created for a storm protection system, no money has been allocated to pay for the system. Details are on the district’s website, gccprd.com
The meeting in Orange was originally scheduled last month but was postponed because Sabine River flooding.
