A 34-year-old man on a bicycle was beaten and robbed of a pack of Kools cigarettes Monday morning. The man called Orange police about 9 a.m. to come to Sunset Park along 16th Street. The man told Officer M.C. Bernard that he was riding his bike home from work when a man he knew asked for a cigarette. The man asking for the smoke ran up behind the bicyclist and started punching him in the face. The bicyclist fell onto the ground and the assailant reached in his pocket and stole the cigarettes. Officer Bernard reported the victim had blood, abrasions and cuts on his face.
Two thefts were reported to Orange police on Monday. The owner of a vacant house in the 700 block of Fifth Street discovered that the back door had been pried open. A 1920’s model Singer pedal sewing machine with a cabinet had been stolen. Also, a resident in the 400 block of Azalea Street reported that a Toro mower had been taken from a storage shed.
