The Republican Party has four contested county races lined up for the March 6 primary.
Monday was the last day of filing. Incumbent Precinct 4 Commissioner Jody Crump filed to run for his third term. He will face Vidor Mayor Robert Viator.
David Smith filed to run against incumbent Christy Khoury for the county treasurer’s position.
Incumbent county judge Brint Carlton is seeking his second four-year term. He is being challenged by Kenneth Luce of Vidor and Dean Crooks of Orangefield.
Incumbent Precinct 2 commissioner Barry Burton is running for a second term. Former Orange City Councilor Theresa Adams Beauchamp, whose mother once served as Precinct 2 commissioner, is running against Burton.
The winner of the Precinct 2 race will face Democrat Debra Mitchell, also a former Orange city councilor, in the November general election. No other Democrats are running for local county positions.
Other Republican primary races have single candidates running unopposed. All are incumbents except for two. Steven Parkhurst is running for 260th State District Judge because incumbent Buddie Hahn is retiring at the end of 2018. Also, Chad Jenkins is running for Precinct 2 justice of the peace after Derry Dunn announced his retirement when his term ends.
