Veronica Woodle, a former member of the Orange Police Department, is challenging Larry Spears Jr. for the At-Large Position 6 seat on the Orange City Council. So far, both open seats on the Orange council this year have incumbents drawing opposition.
Paul Burch and Terrie T. Salter are running against incumbent Essie Bellfield in Single-Member District No. 3. Only registered voters living within the district are allowed to vote for the position. All registered voters in the city may vote in the at-large race.
Elections for city councils and three school boards will be May 6. Filing is open until 5 p.m. Friday February 17.
Incumbent T.W. Permenter filed this week for one of three at-large seats on the Pinehurst City Council. Incumbent Dan Mohon filed last week. The other seat up for election is currently held by Sarah McClendon.
In the Bridge City council race, incumbents Tammi Fisette in Place 3 and Terri Gauthier in Place 5 have filed. Two people, Carl Herbert and Phillip Todaro, have filed for the Place 1 position currently held by Kevin Mott.
Marlene Courmier filed this week for re-election to Position 3 on the Little Cypress-Mauriceville CISD board election. She is the only one who has filed at this time. The other open seats are Position 1 held by Randy McIlwain and Position 2 held by David Jones.
No one filed this week for the West Orange-Cove CISD board. Incumbent Ruth Hancock has filed for one of the two at-large positions. The other open seat this year was held by Sarah Jefferson-Simon, who passed away earlier this month.
In addition, the Bridge City ISD election drew no new filings this past week. Incumbents Michael C. Johnson in Place 6 and Mark Anderson for Place 7 filed the first week filing opened.
The Orangefield and Deweyville school districts have elections in November.
