Orange police arrested a 22-year-old man after a chase in SUVs and on foot. Police said Lane Edward Evans of Orange will face a third degree felony charge because he has a previous conviction of evading arrest.
Officer J.J. Baggett reported he was patrolling about 4:15 a.m. Tuesday and saw a GMC Yukon “driving erratically” in the parking lot of the Best Texas Inn and Suites off Interstate 10. Baggett said professional anglers in town for the Redfish Elite tournament had boats in the lot. The officer turned on his patrol vehicle lights to stop the Yukon.
Instead of stopping, the driver of the Yukon turned onto the westbound Interstate 10 access road and sped to Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. Baggett reported the driver did not stop for the traffic light or yield to on-coming traffic.
The chase went onto Bancroft Road and onto Sheila Road. The Yukon went under a carport to a house. Baggett said a woman walked outside and told the driver to stop. Instead he left and drove around the house, then stopped and ran off. Several officers chased and caught him at Claudia Road. Officer Baggett reported police found nothing illegal in the Yukon.
