Roughly 2,000 customers in the Vidor area will be receiving phone calls from Entergy Texas, Inc. today, requesting them to voluntarily reduce their electricity usage between 1 p.m. and 9 p.m.
This unusual request is because the demand for electricity could possibly exceed the available power from the mobile substation that was hooked up to service those customers after flooding damaged our existing substation there.
If demand exceeds the available generation, it could cause interruption of service similar to one that those same customers experienced yesterday.
As you may recall, Entergy Texas brought in four mobile substations to restore power to areas that were flooded by Harvey a few weeks ago. We advised that there may by outages related to these damaged areas as crews work on repairs.
Crews are working on the Vidor substation issue, and it is hoped that this issue will be rectified by tomorrow.
Here are some ways that customers can reduce their energy usage:
- Raise the central air conditioner thermostat to 78 degrees and adjust window units accordingly.
- Use energy efficient ceiling fans and portable fans to circulate air to help you feel cooler.
- Turn off unnecessary lighting and electronics.
- Close window blinds, drapes and curtains to reduce warming in the home from direct sunlight.
- Delay laundry, washing dishes, bathing, etc., until later in the night or early morning.
- Wash clothes with cold water.
- Cook foods at the lowest possible setting and resist the temptation to open the oven door while baking.
- Don’t allow cooled air to escape from the home.
- Check caulking around doors and windows.
- Close the fireplace damper.
- Fill holes and gaps where wiring and pipes enter the house.
We apologize to our customers for the inconvenience and appreciate their patience as we work to recover from this historical flooding event.
