Orange police are looking for two, possibly three, men involved in the Wednesday night armed robbery of the Stop-N-Drive convenience store in the Cove neighborhood. Officers found a 1997 gray Toyota Camry in a ditch and believe the robbers abandoned their get-away car.
The store at 1801 DuPont Drive was robbed by two masked men about 9 p.m. One of the men had a pistol to threaten the clerk. Detective Captain Cliff Hargrave said investigators believe a third man was the driver of the car.
A witness at the store ran to his car and followed the Toyota Camry from the store. As a police car was coming to the scene, the witness flagged down the officer and pointed to the street where the car had gone. Captain Hargrave said the officer turned on the road and found the car in a ditch at by Levingston Park with the men running away. The wooded park is bordered on one side by Adams Bayou with residential streets on the other sides.
Police combed the area Wednesday night. One man walking on a street was stopped and questioned, but was not arrested. Captain Hargrave said the woman the car was registered to sold it a long time ago. Investigators today are going through the car for DNA and fingerprints. Officers will also review surveillance cameras. The Sheriff’s Dept. and other agencies assisted.
