Routine business made up most of the Commissioners Court’s agenda Tuesday with approval of line item transfers of funds. One of them that was not routine dealt with the transfer of over $12,000 to pay a part-time employee in Records Management. Commissioner Jody Crump did not recall the Court approving the part-timer and there was no money allocated previously in the account to pay the employee. Crump was in favor of terminating the employee at the end of the next pay period which would reduce the transferring of funds from contingency to $3,330 instead of $4,600 which would be through the end of the year. He cited that there was no money in that account at all; zero to pay for a part-time employee.
Regina Cameron the director of Records Management said she found court records indicating the employee’s hiring was approved by the Commissioners Court in October of last year. Commissioners took no action Tuesday and will consider it at next week’s meeting.
Another transfer that was approved concerned $2,500 to purchase equipment for an ice machine in the Parks Department. The Court approved the transfer, but will consider approving the actual purchase on next week’s agenda.
There was some confusion on awarding the bid for bulk fuel. The Commissioners decided to draw next week for awarding the contract between the two vendors that tied with the lowest bid.
The Commissioners Court Tuesday proclaimed September as National Ovarian Cancer Awareness month and October as National Breast Cancer Awareness month. The proclamation was made in recognition of the work being done by the Julie Rogers Gift of Life and for the Julie Richardson Procter 5-K Ribbon Run which will be Saturday morning, October 1, in downtown Beaumont. Christine Morris accepted the proclamation for the Gift of Life.
