The Orange City Council has a special called meeting at 9 a.m. Tuesday for business regarding the Interstate 10 improvements in the 16th Street area. The agenda includes a closed-door executive session for the exchange, lease or sale of city-owned land around 15th Street that has been targeted as a site for a commercial developer.
The agenda has the council voting to abandon 1,307 square feet of land adjacent to the Interstate 10 right-of-way. This past Tuesday, the council agreed to abandon about three-fourths of an acre of right-of-way land on north 15th Street.
The Texas Department of Transportation is building a new interstate 10 overpass at 16th Street and will extend the access roads across the railroad tracks. The access roads have had dead ends on east and west bound lanes at the railroad tracks.
City officials have said the extension of the access roads will open up land for development into shops, restaurants and other businesses.
The called meeting agenda also includes a resolution for the city to award a $54,329 contract to Simco LTD for relocating the water lines along Bob Hall Road as part of the interstate project.
