New construction and remodeling projects were so slow in Orange during September that the biggest project was the installation of a new 9-1-1 tower at the police department.
Shaffer Tower Service took out a permit for the project valued on the permit at $47,000. The communication tower is part of an upgrade of a regionwide system.
The second most valuable permit was for a $35,000 billboard for Rogers Lumber Company, 8438 Highway 90.
A business at 111 Green Avenue is getting a $24,000 commercial add-on. St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 1401 Park Avenue, received a permit for work worth $5,000 to extend a porch and repair window damage.
The Horseman Store, 519 Lutcher Drive, continues to repair damage from the March Sabine River flood. The store is getting a $9,000 HVAC system. The Orange City Council earlier in the year voted to not charge building permit fees to fix buildings damaged by flooding.
Three residential add-on permits worth a total of $24,337 were issued. All involved outdoor projects like a greenhouse, patio cover and gazebo.
Two residential repair projects totaled $30,925. One was for foundation repair on Chasse Ridge and another was for bringing a house on Westway Drive up to city building codes.
Four houses are getting new roofs worth a total of $22,275. One residential permit for a $5,469 fence was issued and a residential carport valued at $4,119 is being installed.
