Management with the city of Orange is preparing to bargain with fire and police unions for the first time in three years. The city has set two bargaining sessions with the International Association of Firefighters Local 1432. In addition, the City Council will have a closed-door session on Tuesday to discuss the contracts and bargaining.
City representatives and firefighters representatives will have public bargaining meetings Monday at 2 p.m. and Tuesday at 10 a.m. Both meetings will be in the Ira Williamson Meeting Room inside the Orange Public Library.
The City Council will meet at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the council auditorium next to the library. The agenda includes an executive session for a “consultation on collective bargaining agreement negotiations with the Orange Municipal Police Association and International Association of Firefighters Local 1432.” The public is not allowed to hear the discussions of an executive session, but any vote for action must be held in a public meeting.
Both unions had three-year contracts that began in the 2014-15 budget year. They received equal pay raises of 2.5 percent for the first year and 2.75 percent for each of the next two years. They also get $25 addition pay for special certifications.
