The wooden elf is back at work decorating Burton Avenue, but Orange police are still looking for a crook that knocked over a Christmas tree and stole toys and children’s clothes from an apartment.
The holiday spirit took a hit Friday in two separate incidents.
The first was reported at 7:30 in the morning at the Sabine Park apartments, 111 West Pine Avenue. The resident returned home to discover the door had been forced open. Detective Captain Robert Enmon said the Christmas tree was knocked over and several gifts were stolen. The presents included a Doc McStuffins big wheel tricycle and a Minnie Mouse vacuum cleaner. Also stolen were assorted children’s clothes.
Captain Enmon said police want to find the burglar and help the children. Anyone with information about the break-in or the gifts should contact the Orange Police Department at 883-1026.
About 7:30 in the evening, the decorative elf was taken from a yard in the 2000 block of Burton Avenue in the Old Orange Historic District near Shangri La. The line of houses has become known for its lights and lit stars hanging from expansive live oak trees.
A witness saw people in a white Ford F-150 take the elf out of the yard. An Orange patrol officer saw the truck and stopped it. Captain Enmon said the wooden elf was in the back of the truck.
A woman driving the truck was issued a citation in connection with the theft, he said.
