A chase that started in Bridge City Monday afternoon, ended near Lumberton with one man under arrest.
BC Police were called after WalMart reported a man leaving the store with stolen property. Officers made a traffic stop on the suspect and began to question him, but he wouldn’t get out of the vehicle and then sped away. He lead police on a chase through Port Arthur and then through Beaumont where Beaumont PD joined the chase.
According to Assistant Chief Brad Frye, the suspect lost control on Hwy 96 near Lumberton hit the center wall and then bounced off, striking the two BC patrol vehicles before coming to a stop. Officers Jessie Byrd and Justin Porter were not injured.
DeQuinton Keon Smith, 21, of Beaumont was taken to the Jefferson County Jail on Felony Evading and Shoplifting. He also has four warrants out of Bridge City.
