Small business owners in Orange County submitted applications Monday at the Orange County Economic Development Corporation (EDC) so they would be eligible for grants to pay for damages from Harvey. Executive Director Jessica Hill of the EDC said she was kept busy Monday morning accepting 136 completed applications.
Hill added that when she arrived at her office early that morning there were already about 60 people waiting in the parking lot, and they were making a list of those present to make sure they were each taken in the proper order. It took from 9:00 AM until about 12:30 PM for the first 40 applicants to be registered. Other businesses submitted their completed applications, and small businesses in Orange County may continue do so until November 3 in case additional funds are made available, Hill stated.
It will be another couple of weeks for an appointed committee to review each of the first 40 applications. The EDC has $200,000 designated for the grants. Each of the grant recipients should receive $5,000 to help in their recovery from Harvey. Hill concluded, “We will conduct a site visit with each applicant to verify their business address before we release those funds.”
