Orange police arrested a 22-year-old man and recovered six stolen handguns after a break-in at Best Pawn, 1202 16th Street. Officers found the pistols dropped along a back alley behind the shop where the man had run.
The burglary was reported at 1:40 a.m. Wednesday when an alarm sounded. “Officers happened to be very close to the area and heard the alarm,” Detective Captain Robert Enmon said.
Officer P.H. McDonald reported he saw a man in a black shirt in front of the store when he arrived. The man ran into the alley, but police caught him. They also found the guns, which were later returned to the pawn shop owner.
Leroy Meloncon of Orange was arrested for burglary of a building and was taken to the Orange County Jail.
