The Stark Foundation continues to lead monthly building permits issued by the City of Orange. The foundation during the past three years has invested millions of dollars in building improvements, including the restoration of the old First Baptist Church building on Green Avenue. In June, the foundation received a permit to install $1.425 million on a Honeywell climate system for the Lutcher Theater.
Coming in second was Itex Construction with permits for two new single-family residential houses in the Cypresswood Village subdivision. The company is also building three new affordable housing complexes for the Orange Housing Authority. Cypresswood Village is on Highway 87 South near the local office for the Texas Department of Public Safety. The subdivision is in the City of Orange and the Bridge City school district. The permits list the houses at $154,000 each for a total of $308,000. Another hurricane recovery private residence worth $99,000 is being built on Clairmont Drive.
The Velma Jeter Apartments on Allie Payne Road are under construction through the Orange Housing Authority and got a permit to install $120,000 for a commercial fire sprinkler system.
The Sunset Grove Apartments received a permit for $42,355 in construction to convert a storage building to an office. Also, the Waffle House on Highway 62 South has a permit for $5,500 worth of new air-conditioning units.
In the residential improvement category, two permits totaling $31,000 were issued with the largest for $20,000 to remodel a house on Cherry Avenue. One new residential storage building worth $3,614 is being constructed and a new backyard driveway is valued at $3,000. One permit for a residential re-roof was issued for $2,500. Five permits totaling $20,900 were issued for residential mechanical work to cover air-conditioning and heating systems.
