Groups wanting to use the City of Orange Boat Ramp will have to make a formal written request and follow a set of rules. The Orange City Council has approved the rules developed by the city staff.
City Economic Director Jay Trahan said the staff had handled the use of the park “on an individual basis.” However, more people want to use the park, which is off Simmons Drive along the Sabine River.
“The Boat Ramp Area is intended for everyday use, individual, non-reserved use and may be reserved for performances and special events if approved in advance by the CVB (Convention and Visitors Bureau) staff and/or the City Manager,” the policy manual says.
The rules include the area is to be used only by non-profit groups, however for-profit events may be considered by the City Council or City Manager. For profit events could be charged for the use. All groups will need to leave a $250 cleaning fee deposit that can be returned.
Trahan said the policy also requires any group selling alcohol will have to meet the regulations of the Texas Commission on Alcoholic Beverages. Groups may also be required to provide security at their cost.
Also, groups leasing the Boat Ramp area will need a $1 million minimum liability insurance. The sale of alcoholic beverages will require and additional liability insurance.
The city will not allow dogs, pets and other animals during events except for service dogs.
