Former Orange City Councilwoman Theresa Adams Beauchamp announced Monday she will run for Precinct 2 county commissioner in 2018.
Beauchamp is a retired teacher and school principal. She served 11 years through 10 terms on the Orange council. She was ineligible to run again because the city has term limits.
She said she wants to push economic development and bring more people to the county. “We’ve got to sell Orange County and we have something to sell,” she said. “We’ve got to have economic development.”
She also said “I want transparency in the court. I want honesty and availability, accessibility” to people.
Beauchamp will be running as a Republican. Incumbent Precinct 2 Commissioner Barry Burton of Mauriceville, also a Republican, announced last week that he would run for re-election next year for a second term.
Beauchamp’s mother, Marcelle Adams, was the county’s first woman commission after winning election more than 30 years ago. Adams served as Precinct 2 commissioner.
