Bridge City received a bit of a delay in starting up its new water filtration system. The city is installing new filters to the water wells, but is not adding any new treatments so Bridge City thought no state permits were required. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) informed Bridge City permits are required for the new filters.
City Manager Jerry Jones said this will mean a slight delay for implementing the water filtration program. Jones indicated the permits are issued by TCEQ at no charge and the filters being used by Bridge City have received previous approval from the state agency in other cities. “We could get the permits back this week and start the system up,” Jones informed.
Jones added that Bridge City has checked the two well sites which had parameters in July above the maximum level allowed of .08 for trihalomethanes or THM. Those 2 sites have been corrected and the levels have been reduced to acceptable levels. Jones stated they now have .05 and .06 levels.
