The council chamber at City Hall was a full house for a workshop Tuesday to discuss the possibility of an affordable housing project coming to Bridge City. Arx Advantage from Austin and the Park Company out of Mississippi want to build 55 single family units on Martin Street in Bridge City.
Representatives from the two companies twice previously spoke to the City Council seeking a support resolution from the council. Several members of the council had questions about the proposed housing project. The workshop was called to have those questions answered and to seek citizens’ input.
Eric Andrus on the City Council was encouraged by the large number of citizens that turned out for the workshop. Andrus stated the City Council’s questions were answered as best as they could have been. Enough questions were answered that he could make an educated decision about what needs to be done in the best interest for the city and its citizens. Andrus said he is opposed to granting the support resolution for the housing addition.
Mayor Kirk Roccaforte was very pleased by the interest shown from the Bridge City citizens, but his mind is not made up yet on the proposed housing project. Roccaforte admitted the citizens brought up many good points and he is considering those points, but the mayor has not decided yet exactly which way to go.
The City Council is expected to vote next Tuesday, February 16, during its regular meeting on the support resolution requested by the housing developers. That meeting will be at 6:00 PM in the City Hall of Bridge City on Rachel.
