Funds from bonds have come in for Bridge City to start up to 12 civic projects. City Manager Jerry Jones said about $2.5 million will be kept in the bank for future use while the other million dollars will be used to pay for projects that are already underway. Topping the list of projects is installing filters in the Bridge City water system, and Jones said that project is ready to get started. Jones informed that Tuesday he received the final cost on the project which is $1.2 million for filters in all three locations and the entire project. Plans for the new police station have been revised and bids for that project could be requested in about two weeks. In the meantime the Drainage District has offered to clean the lot at Rachal and Ferry to be ready for construction of the police building. The new records building behind the City Hall could start going up in one month or less. Progress is being made on installing a 12-inch water line between FM 408 and Sunnyside as is the project to repair the water tank on 408. Jones indicates the opening of the new splash pad off of Roundbunch Road is still on schedule. Jones indicated the pad has been ordered, and city is waiting on parts to come in with the water park still scheduled to open during the first part of September or earlier. The City Council approved Blue Cross Blue Shield as the medical and dental insurance provider for city employees in Bridge City Tuesday evening. The city’s Insurance Committee made the recommendation and insurance advisor Doug Etheridge believes it was a good choice for Bridge City. Etheridge advised that the city has been with Blue Cross Blue Shield long enough that everyone knows their network, and the insurance saves the city money that’s the main thing. The bid for trust property at 308 Edgerly was approved by the council. The City Council approved an ordinance authorizing the suspension of an effective date concerning a proposed rate increase by Entergy. After discussing Bridge City participating in the Shop Orange County marketing campaign the City Council voted to table any action until it could hear a presentation from the Chamber of Commerce and the production company doing the campaign on the details of the 30-second spots to be used. It is hoped that presentation might be done at the next City Council meeting.
