Tropical Storm Cindy is slowly heading towards landfall near the Texas-Louisiana state line late tonight into early Thursday morning. The primary threat with this system continue to be the heavy rains and storm surge, with additional threats of tropical storm force wind gusts and isolated tornadoes.
1. Rain: We are expecting 3 to 5 inches of rain in the heavier rain bands, with locally higher amounts possible if it sits over a location for several hours. Expect to see street flooding during periods of heavy rains.
2. Storm Surge/Tides: During high tide between midnight and 6 am Thursday, water will be 1 to 3 feet above ground level around Sabine Pass, sections of Highway 87 between Sabine Pass and Port Arthur, low spots near Bridge City, Highway 82 around Holly Beach, Highway 27 near Hackberry, downtown Cameron, Pecan Island, Intracoastal City, Delcambre, Cypremort Point, Burns Point, Amelia, and Stephensville.
3. Winds: Tropical storm force wind gusts of 40 to 50 mph will be possible along and south of the I-10 corridor of southeast Texas and southwest and south central Louisiana tonight, before tapering off by midday Thursday. Expect scattered power outages, several trees to fall, and minor property damage.
4. Tornadoes: There is a slight risk for tornadoes, mainly during the daytime hours on Thursday across most of our forecast area.
