Three missing Alabama children who were found in Orange County Thursday had been taken more than 600 miles from home by their mother, the Marshall County sheriff said.
A traffic stop on Interstate 10 in Orange County led to the recovery of Katelyn Marie Kitchens, Timothy Gene “Trace” Kitchens and Darren Marcus Cribbs, who were taken by their mother earlier this week, said Marshall County Sheriff Scott Walls. The mother, Kristine Ann Galaviz, is being held in the Orange County Jail, pending extradition back to Alabama on a felony charge of interference with custody.
Galaviz lost custody of the children earlier this year, Walls said. The children were in the custody of a family member who allowed Galaviz to visit on Tuesday. The mother fled with the children sometime after 3 p.m. They last were seen in Albertville, until Thursday’s traffic stop in Texas.
