After losing to Huntington 9-4 with just one hit on Thursday, the LCM Lady Bears would have to win twice on Saturday to make it to the fourth round of the 4A Softball Playoffs. They not only won but they did it in convincing fashion with wins of 7-0 and 5-0 in Jasper.
Brianna Frenzel was the winning pitcher in the first game of the day, throwing a five hit shutout and striking out nine. The Bears scored two in the first on three hits by Frenzel, Renna Toomey, and Ashley Short. Toomey would double in the fifth and later come home on a wild pitch to make it 3-0. And in the seventh LCM would score four more runs, including a two run double from JoAnna Henry.
In the second game of the day, Toomey got the start in the circle for the Bears and had an excellent game, giving up just three hits while the Bears defense made several great plays to back her up. Jenna James plated Madison Murdock with a single after Murdock was walked to first. In the second inning Jonee’ Villnueva singled in Ashley Short. Henry brought in James with a groundout to the Devilettes shortstop in the fifth to make it 3-0. And Frenzel drove in Murdock and Emily Landry (running for catcher Olivia Leavings) with a double in the sixth. Toomey would sit down Huntington in order in the bottom of the seventh to complete the day and finish off the Devilettes.
The Lady Bears will play Liberty Hill, who also needed three game to advance over Waco Robinson.
