Seven of the 29 food service businesses inspected during the first part of May received perfect 100 scores from Orange County Health Inspector James Scales. The businesses were the Star and Crescent Cafe in Shangri La, Little Cypress Baptist Church, Moz Grill in Crawdad's on FM 1442 along with the Crawdad's store, Suzie's Concessions at 985 N. Main St. in Vidor, Kids and Company at 4034 W. Park Ave. in Orange, and the Snack Shack at 13246 North Highway 87 in Orange.

Senor Toro Mexican Restaurant off Interstate 10 in Orange received the lowest score with a 70. Scales cited the restaurant for numerous violations, including finding cooling rice and sauce on top of a counter, cheese enchiladas, rice and shredded cheese out of proper temperatures, and food in the coolers being needed to be labeled and dated. In addition, several gnats and dead roaches were found, clean dishes had old foods still on them and the cooler in the kitchen didn't have the correct temperature.

CVS Pharmacy, 485 Texas Avenue in Bridge City: 97. Storage rack in the milk cooler needed to be cleaned.

Wal-Mart, 795 Texas Avenue in Bridge City: 97. Racks in the milk cooler needed to be cleaned.

Tico’s Cuban Cafe, 1145 Texas Avenue in Bridge City: 97. Paint coming off at the compartment sink.

Wendy’s, 3113 Edgar Brown Drive in Orange: 97. Several gnats found near prep station.

Popeye’s Chicken, 1604 W. Link Avenue in Orange: 97. Several gnats found in back storage area.

Holiday Inn Express, 260 East Freeway in Vidor: 97. Soap was needed at the hand-washing station.

Texas Country Store, 7411 Interstate 10 East in Orange: 96. Several expired foods pulled from shelves.

Kim’s Donut Place, 3041 Highway 12 in Vidor: 96. A child was found in the back prep area.

Novrozky’s Restaurant, 1035 N. Main Street in Vidor: 94. Several gnats found. Rusted air vents found in prep area and the spaces around the fryers and vents needed to be cleaned.

Domino’s Pizza, 2107 MacArthur Drive in Orange: 93. Floor inside the walk-in cooler needs repair. Ovens needed to be cleaned.

Dollar General, 1390 N. Main Street in Vidor: 93. Several expired foods pulled from shelves. Thermometers needed inside all reach-in coolers.

Stop N Drive, 1801 DuPont Drive in Orange: 93. Several expired foods pulled from shelves. Mold was inside ice machine.

Avila’s Mexican Restaurant, 2615 Western Avenue in Orange: 92. Raw beef stored on top shelf of reach-in cooler. Foods inside the coolers and freezers needed to be labeled and dated.

Nolan Food Store, 585 Interstate 10 West in Vidor: 90. Raw beef stored above drinks inside walk-in cooler. Reach-in cooler was not at proper temperature and several gnats were found.

Little Caesar’s Pizza, 3715 N. 16th Street in Orange: 90. Ceiling tiles were missing above prep area, exposing insulation. Gaskets at the walk-in cooler door needed replacing and door was not closing completely. Water was coming up from the floor. Wall at the compartment sink needed to be repaired. Plumber was at restaurant talking about repairs. Follow-up inspection needed.

Church’s Chicken, 7409 Interstate 10 East in Orange: 90. Employees needed hair restraints. Several gnats found in the kitchen and prep areas. Floors needed cleaning and the cooler/freezer needed cleaning.

In & Out Mini Mart, 100 West Freeway in Vidor: 89. Store name and address were needed on bags of ice being sold. Several expired foods pulled from shelves. Inside of cappuccino machine needed cleaning and slime was found inside the ice machine.

Country Pantry, 1079 Orange Street in Vidor: 89. Store name and address were needed on bags of ice being sold. Several expired foods pulled from shelves. Hand-washing station needed for the deli.

McDonald’s, 1710 N. 16th St. in Orange: 89. Employee found with paint on fingernails. Employee drinks found on prep table and inside reach-in cooler. Several fresh vegetables were out of date and turning brown. Floors needed cleaning. Mold found on drink dispensers.

Sun Wok II, 2429 Texas Avenue in Bridge City: 81. Chicken, cut carrots and eggrolls were not at proper temperatures. All foods inside the cooler/freezers needed to be dated. Towels needed at the hand-washing station. Outside storage equipment needed to be cleaned.
