A dedication ceremony of a parking plaque for veterans was held Saturday morning in front of the West Orange City Hall on Western Avenue. A special reserved parking space for veterans will be designated with the plaque honoring Master Sergeant Tim Hankins who served 11 tours of combat before losing his life last October.
The West Orange City Council unanimously approved on June 12 designating a space to honor Hankins and other veterans. Rick Murillo organized the ceremony and had the special sign produced to honor MSG Hankins. Murillo has performed similar ceremonies in Georgia and South Carolina, but this is this first one in Texas.
Hankins’ parents Carol and Dennis Hankins were given flowers and a banner in recognition of Tim’s service for his country. The special plaque was erected by his parents with West Orange Mayor Roy McDonald and Kenneth Droddy who was a friend of Tim’s and made the initial request in June for the plaque. The ceremony recognizing Hankins and other veterans was attended by over 50 people.
