Orange County Sheriff Keith Merritt is pleased to announce the Eighth Orange County Citizen’s Sheriff’s Academy. The academy is scheduled to begin Tuesday, March 21, 2017 and will end with a commencement ceremony tentatively set for April 27, 2017. Class dates will be Tuesdays and Thursdays, with class times being from 6pm – 9pm.
The purpose of the Citizen’s Sheriff Academy is to improve Sheriff’s Office-community relations and enhance public cooperation. This program will offer the Orange County Sheriff’s Office the opportunity to show the public the selection and training process that applicants must go through, the continued training requirements, operation procedures and tactics, and our efforts to provide a professional level of law enforcement to the citizens we serve. Citizens gain a better understanding of the criminal justice system and law enforcement administrators gain a better understanding of citizens’ concerns and their perception of law enforcement.
Citizens are also afforded the opportunity of “observations” where they actually spend a few hours in divisions such as Patrol, Corrections, and Communications getting a real feel for the inner workings of the Sheriff’s Office.
Those interested in being a part of our next Academy can pick up an application at the Orange County Sheriff’s Office beginning Monday, February 6, 2017. We will accept applications through March 8, 2017. For further information, you may contact Captain Dennis Marlow by email dmarlow@co.orange.tx.us or by phone 409-882-7821.
