Shangri La gardens on Saturday continued with the annual fall festival despite the rain. Winners of the 7th Annual Scarecrow Festival were also announced.
Cottage Cuttings, a garden nursery, took the Director’s Award for Favorite Scarecrow by getting the most votes from visitors. The entry was “Flaming Headless Horseman.”
The Orange Fire Department (above) took first place in the organizations category with “All in a Day’s Work.” The Orange Camp Fire Council was second with “Star flight” and the Children’s Garden Committee took third with “Minion Pot People.” H.E.A.R.T., a homeschooler group, was given an honorable mention for “H.E.A.R.T.” (below)
In the school category, first place went to Ms. Holland’s third grade class at Little Cypress Elementary with “Ms. Holland’s Squarecrows.” Vidor Junior High was second with “Wheelson” and third place went to the LC-M CISD with “We’ve Landed in Shangri La.” Honorable mention was given to the third grade classes of Ms. Davis and Ms. Ellis at Little Cypress Elementary.
International Paper received the Director’s Award for Best Recycling Message with “Paper and Packaging: How Life Unfolds.” Other Director’s Awards were Most Original Theme, “Wheelson” by Vidor Junior High; Best Botanical Theme Using Artificial Materials, “Untitled” by the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA); Building Community Pride, Friends of the Orange Depot with “The Little Train Depot That Could;” and Most Innovative Use of Natural Materials, “Niked! (Just Did It)” by What’s Happening Orange County?
