Public Participation in Orange County’s Hazard Mitigation Action Plan
Orange County is located in a region that experiences relatively frequent and occasionally devastating natural disasters. The impact of hazards directly affect the safety and well-being of the residents of the planning area, highlighting the importance of developing a strategy to reduce or eliminate future damages from hazards.
The ultimate goal of the Orange County Hazard Mitigation Action Plan is to promote the health, safety, and welfare of all residents and local interests. The Hazard Mitigation Action Plan outline projects within the planning area that can mitigate, reduce, and prevent the loss of life and property as a result of a natural disaster. The purpose of mitigation planning in general is to take proactive measures to reduce or prevent negative impacts of future events.
The Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) requires the plan be updated every five (5) years. In order to develop a more comprehensive approach to reducing the effects of natural disasters, Orange County encourages the public’s participation in the risk assessment portion of updating the Hazard Mitigation Action Plan. You can participate by completing an online survey. To complete the survey go to https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/SETRPC_HMAP.
