The Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears scored in every inning and got solid pitching from three hurlers. The Bears bombed the West Orange-Stark Mustangs 17-1 at Ronnie Anderson Park Friday night.
After loading the bases with three walks in the top of the first inning, the Bears got all the runs they would need when Chris Bilbo hit a fly down the right field line that just stayed fair and cleared the fence for a grand slam. The Mustangs missed a chance to get out of the inning two batters earlier on a ground ball force out at second that could have been an inning ending double play except the throw was dropped at first base.
West Orange-Stark got on the board in the bottom of the first as Chad Dallas homered to centerfield to make the score 4-1. It would be the last run of the night for the hometown Mustangs.
Three Bears scored in the second. LC-M loaded the bases with two out just like in the first frame. This time Truman Franklin was the hero with a bases clearing double off the centerfield fence giving the Bears a 7-1 advantage.
Control plagued the Mustang pitchers all night. Kaleb Ramsey, Da’quarius Gibson, and Jerren Terrell combined to walk 11 Bears and hit three more. LC-M scored four runs in the third on three hits, three walks and a hit batter to lift the score to 11-1.
More of the same followed in the fourth inning. Bilbo got a leadoff single. With two outs John Beeson walked. Jordan Alexander one hopped a shot off the left center field fence to drive in Bilbo. Two walks brought in a second run. Ty Shugart singled to the gap in right driving in two before Slade Green singled into right to make it 16-1.
With subs playing LC-M tallied one more time in the fifth. Joseph Moore got the run batted in with an infield single.
Green started on the mound for the Bears and pitched well. He made the one mistake to Dallas in the first, but otherwise yielded three hits and walked just one with five strikeouts in three innings of work.
Reagan Burdette pitched a scoreless fourth inning for the Bears registering two strikeouts and the only baserunner reached on an error. Bilbo closed the game out allowing no runs in the fifth.
Little Cypress-Mauriceville swept the two games with West Orange-Stark this week. Next week the Bears play cross-county rival the Bridge City Cardinals in two games.
