The Commissioners Court had three closed sessions Tuesday to discuss pending or possible litigation with their attorney as part of the weekly meeting. Assistant County Attorney Doug Manning recommended no action be taken by the Court as a result of any of the closed sessions.
The Commissioners were to consider a consumer price index increase on the price of meal service provided by Five Star Correctional Services at the Orange County Jail. Commissioner Jody Crump told Judge Brint Carlton he had some questions concerning the increased prices, but Crump needed to attend training and was not at the meeting. The item was tabled until next week when Crump should be in attendance and the roughly three-cent a meal increase which is to go into effect on July 1, 2017 will be considered for approval then.
Nine properties were approved for sewer improvement projects as part of a Community Development Block Grant. Joel Ardoin, the county’s Environmental Health Director, informed the Court that there were 24 applicants for the approximately $92,000 in grant money that will be used to improve the sewer connections for low income residents.
The renewal of an agreement between the county and Reliable Uniform Services for cleaning the uniforms of the Sheriff’s Office deputies was approved by the Commissioners. Purchasing Agent Connie Cassidy said there were no changes in the terms of the agreement.
