Two contracts that have been years in the works were approved Tuesday by the Commissioners Court for ethernet and internet services with AT&T. Lisa Reeves with the MIS department said one of the contracts will allow Orange County to connect the Justice of the Peace offices in Precinct 2 and Precinct 3, the Sheriff’s Office in Vidor, and the Mauriceville Commissioner’s office to its network for ethernet at an actual savings of about a thousand dollars a month.
A separate contract that covers the internet service for the county will go up from $547 to $896 a month. Still the two combined will be less expensive than previously.
Commissioners also approved the contract with THEnet for internet service that is used at the Courthouse complex. That price went up $104 a month, but will include twice the coverage at the Courthouse.
Emergency Management Coordinator Missy Pillsbury was given approval by the Commissioners to apply for a 2017 Helping Heroes Grant. Pillsbury said the grant will help to purchase 12 new barricades to be used during emergency situations. There will be no set amount of funds or matching funds requirement for the grant application which must be submitted by August 15, 2017.
At the close of the regular meeting the Commissioners and County Judge Brint Carlton meet in a closed session with Assistant County Attorney Doug Manning for over 30 minutes to discuss a matter covered by the attorney client privilege. Afterwards Manning recommended and the Court approved taking no action on the discussion.
