City projects are moving forward in both Bridge City and Pinehurst. A splash pad is being constructed between the pavilion and the library off of Roundbunch Road in Bridge City. The concrete pad has been laid and the water works have been erected at the splash pad. City Manager Jerry Jones says the company installing the water works still needs to do some work to make the splash pad operational. Jones adds that there will be some landscaping work done around the splash pad when it is completed.
In Pinehurst City Administrator Robbie Hood is hoping to make lemonade out of a lemon. Pinehurst was obligated by the FEMA buy-back program to take possession of the property on Park Avenue at 33rd Street which is low lying and prone to flooding. Maximum Effects Hair Salon has moved to MacArthur Drive from that location. This week Hood reports that the building there was demolished and the land cleared to make way for a dog park. FEMA guidelines prohibit any permanent structure being built on the property, but Hood indicates fences could possibly be put up as part of the dog park which is in the works. A committee will be appointed to develop plans for making the dog park a reality. Hood has studied dog parks in Beaumont for ideas to be used for the one in Pinehurst. The city administrator hopes to appoint another committee to plan improvements for West Park which is further west on Park Avenue from the planned dog park site.
