Game One between LCM and Robinson was just minutes away from being cancelled after rain took over at the University of Houston Thursday. And then, the skies cleared enough to play at 9pm, but it was not the Bears night as they suffered a 12-2 loss in 6 innings.
After the visiting Bears went down in order in the first, Robinson brought 13 batters to the plate in the bottom of the first, scoring 8 runs on 6 hits with three walks one Bear error. The Rockets first six batters reached base and scored.
A bad start got worse when slugger and Game Two starter Mitchell Lee was injured at first base trying to tag a runner. The stadium fell silent with most people fearing a serious arm injury. But after a considerable amount of time, he got up and stayed in the game defensively before Coach Steve Griffith pulled him out of the game before the third out of the inning.
Offensively the Bears were hitting Robinson’s left handed starter Dru Dziedzic, but they were hitting right to the Rockets defense, who made every play defensively. The only runs and hits for the Bears came in the third inning when they scored 2 runs on 3 hits, the big one was the 2-run double by Vinny Hale. Dziedzic finished with a complete game three hitter, striking out four and walking four.
Slade Green got the start for LCM. He was pulled with one out in the first. Bryce Peasley pitched the next four and Drake Trawhon pitched the final inning and two thirds.
After scoring the 8 runs in the first, the Rockets added one in the second, two in the fifth, and ended it in the sixth with a sac fly rbi by Tanner James, who was 2-2 with 3RBI’s two walks, and two runs scored. Dziedzic was 3-4 with 3 RBI’s.
Game Two is scheduled for 5pm at Sam Houston State at 5pm with Game 3 to follow.
