PORT NECHES -The Bridge City Cardinals opened their best of three series against Liberty with an 11-1 whipping of the Panthers in five innings.
Liberty scored their run in the first on three hits off of starter Kevin Gordon. But that would be their only hits of the game as Gordon shut them down for the next three innings. Peyton Havard entered in the fifth and sat them down in order.
Offensively the Cardinals started with a bang, or actually a bomb. Justyn Romero hit his second grand slam in the playoffs to give the Cards a 4-1 first inning lead. They would score three in the second and four in the fourth to end the game early. Leadoff Schuyler Thibodeaux was 4-4, Logan Hamm reached all four times with a single and 3 walks. Gordon and Gavin Green had two hits each.
The series will move to Crosby High School for Game Two on Friday.
