Bridge City is going to take action on the request of a couple that spoke to the City Council this week. Bob and Marie Bonnin said the house next door to their home in the 2300 block of Beverly has been condemned for seven years since Hurricane Ike and has weeds head high in the yard which poses a hazard for their grandchildren playing in their yard from rodents and other creatures. They pointed out that the structure has not been occupied since Ike except by a transient and occasionally boys that go inside to smoke. The Bonnins said they are afraid if the structure at 2345 Beverly caught fire their home next door could possibly be damaged as well. Bridge City Public Works Director Gerald Robinson said that he will have crews attempt to mow the yard this week if the weather permits. Robinson said tearing down the structure may take a little longer since Bridge City has loss its use of jail inmate labor. He did say the city hopes that within 30 days to have the structure down.
