The road to the post season for the Bridge City Cardinals took a detour last week at Jasper as the Bulldogs pulled out a heart stopping 48-47 comeback win against the Cardinals. Bridge City Coach Dwayne DuBois believes the Cardinals will comeback from the loss, and they must do it quickly with the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears the opponent this Friday.
DuBois recognizes that LC-M has some explosive backs in Sam King, Chris Winters, and J’Lon Douglas. Even with their starting quarterback Beau Bickham out with an injury the Bears used Paul Joubert and still scored over 50 points which DuBois attributes to the wonderful job coaches Bickham and Pachuca did in preparing them for Cleveland on the offensive side.
Both teams run similar ball control offensives, so Coach DuBois thinks each team will have limited possessions and must make the most of them. DuBois wants to control the tempo, but the coach points out how important it will be to stop the Bears’ explosive offense while at the same time the Cardinals need to take full advantage of their chances when they do have the football.
The district championship and making the playoffs are still the goals for Bridge City which means the Cardinals cannot afford a second district loss this week according to DuBois. The playoffs start now. The Cardinals are in the playoffs every week now emphasizes DuBois. He believes his kids will respond to that situation very good and do not want to fall behind in the district race with a second district loss. Coach DuBois concludes LC-M represents a cross-county rival, it is homecoming for Bridge City, a lot of festivities, and it should be fun Friday night.
The Bridge City Cardinals hope to celebrate homecoming with a win Friday night against the LC-M Bears and live on KOGT.
