Orange County may be losing a very qualified district attorney, but the Air Force is gaining an excellent prosecuting officer. During a ceremony held in the Orange County Commissioners Courtroom on Thursday County Judge Brint Carlton who is also a major in the Air Force reserves swore in Zach Capra as a lieutenant in the United States Air Force.
Capra expressed the reason he is leaving Orange County to join the Air Force is that he has always been very interested in serving his country. After graduating from college and getting his law degree at LSU now is the perfect opportunity and there is no better branch than the Air Force. Capra said he is real excited about the opportunity.
Capra worked about 18 months with the local district attorney’s office under John Kimbrough and will shortly be reporting for training with the Air Force. Capra said he appreciates the experience gained serving in Orange County. Capra indicated he is grateful for the opportunity he had to serve the people in Orange as a prosecutor in the both the County Court-At-Law and the County Court-At-Law 2, adding that the judges here are great. He believes the time prosecuting individuals here has definitely given him good experience that he will be able to use in the Air Force as a judge advocate general.
Initially, Zach will be training at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, Alabama. For at least his first two years of service Lieutenant Capra will be serving at Robbins Air Force Base near Macon, Georgia.
