CITY OF WEST ORANGE
PRESS RELEASE

07/08/2008

The City of West Orange continues efforts to clean up the City and remove stockpiled trash, green waste and construction debris.

In order to expedite these efforts, the citizens of West Orange are urged to follow these guidelines:

  • Yard waste (green waste) will be picked up with normal trash pickup at no extra cost IF in bags or trash cans OR tied in bundles of 4 feet in length weighing 35 pounds or less with a maximum of 10 bags or containers.  Limbs less than 4 inches in diameter and cut in 4-foot lengths will also be picked up on the last pickup day of the week if placed at the curb or street.

  • White goods (appliances and similar items) will be picked up on the last pickup day of the week if placed at the curb or street.  All refrigeration equipment MUST have CFCs removed and must be tagged by a certified technician licensed to do so by the state.

  • Waste Management will NOT pick up tires, batteries, auto parts, construction waste, hazardous waste, medical waste, paint, chemical containers or dead animals weighing 10 pounds or more.  Waste Management is NOT responsible for disposal of yard waste (green waste) generated by a nurseryman or commercial service provider.

  • Unbundled green waste will be picked up at no charge as long as the City has a contract to dispose of it at Temple Inland at no cost to the City and as long as said waste is not mixed in with any other type waste.

  • Construction and other debris will be collected at a cost that covers landfill fees (currently $15 per cubic yard).  Yard waste (green waste), white goods and other debris must be placed in separate piles at the curb for pickup, as each must be picked up separately.  Mixed trash/debris will only be picked up after the collection fee has been paid.  Residents must contact City Hall so that the number of yards can be determined and pickup fees must be prepaid.  Please call 883-3468 to place this request.

  • The City of West Orange also has 4-yard dumpsters available (for residents’ use only) for up to 10 days at a cost of $25 for each time dumpster must be emptied.  Fees must be paid in advance at City Hall.

The City is working diligently to clean all neighborhoods, but this is an endeavor that cannot be accomplished without the participation and compliance of its citizens.  Should you have any questions regarding these guidelines, please contact the Sanitation Department of West Orange City Hall at 883-3468.  Thank you.
