This Snorkel Doesn't Require Fins

July 23, 2008

Our Mardi Gras Krewe has had parade floats in the past with operating paddlewheels on a Mississippi Riverboat, and a pirate ship with a cannon that could actually shoot beads without killing someone.  Those tasks were always given to krewe member Brad Prejean.

So it was no surprise to this writer when Prejean told me he had come up with a contraption that would allow him to ride his all-terrain vehicle under water.

Looking for a way to have more fun has turned in to a new profession for the Orange native.

Prejean teamed with partner and fellow designer Chris Gilbert in 2002 to create a snorkel for 4-wheelers.  Al Anselmo joined the team and Triangle ATV was formed.

“I was just looking for a way to go from the mud to the water and back to the mud without drowning the bike out,” said Prejean.

Now Triangle ATV is the feature attraction at many ATV and Monster Truck shows.  “It’s gone crazy,” Prejean said.  “People just flock to us when we go to a show because they’ve heard about the snorkel.”

The snorkel connects to the air box on the ATV which keeps it from drowning out.  It looks like the exhaust stack coming out of an 18-wheeler.  But now the Triangle ATV Team has made it even more sophisticated by hiding the snorkel in the front of the bike.  The snorkel is also available for the side-by-side ATV’s, also known as UTV’s.

Being featured in magazines like Dirt Wheels and Fishers ATV World as well as Fox Sports and the Outdoor Channel has also increased the staff size as they’ve moved on to create more accessories like lighting kits, stereo systems and more.  For more information check out their website at www.triangleatv.com
