January is “School Board Appreciation Month.” To pay tribute to the current Board, for their special recognition as the 2006 Regional Honor Board, the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Administration hosted a reception during the monthly meeting to honor the present and former school board members. Board members from Mauriceville ISD, Little Cypress ISD, and Little Cypress-Mauriceville CISD attended, with two having served as early as 1955, and 1958. The 1971 Board of Trustees was also the recipient of this honor. Pauline Hargrove, Superintendent of LCM CISD, welcomed the former board members and their guests stating, “You paved the way for all of the successes that we are enjoying today.” In a brief overview of the District, she informed them of the District’s fund balance of $12.8 million in the general account, and an operating budget that exceeds $30 million. “We greatly appreciate each one of you, your contributions, and your families who graciously shared you the district,” said Hargrove. The LCM High School Pop Choir, under the direction of Meredith Johnson, performed for the attendees, singing Rascal Flatts’ “God Bless the Broken” and Stevie Wonder’s “Sir Duke.” Presentations were made by the administrative team to each board member, present and former. “We want to fill in the gaps that exist in information that we currently have on past board members and superintendents,” says Sherry Combs, Community Relations Coordinator for LCM. “Both communities have a rich heritage of volunteer support for education and we want to make sure that we have a record of those who have made such significant contributions to who we are as a District today.” To view the list of past school board members and superintendents, go to lcmcisd.org/board/past.htm.
